Before I get to the suggestion for today on the first Monster Monday of October 2017, let me inform you about my upcoming appearance. If you are looking for a fun event to bring the family out to this coming Saturday (October 7th) and you live in Cobb County or the surrounding area, you should come by Revfest. This show is an outdoor market with 50 booths at Rev Coffee in Smyrna, live music all day, starting at noon, and bar-b-que by Ebony & Ivory (great BBQ). I’ll be there along with a lot of other great vendors, so come by, say hi and pick up a book or just come by for a fun time.
Now, on to our first pick for Monster Monday this year. James Gunn, the man who brought Guardians of the Galaxy to the big screen in both of their films, started out telling stories about space that were a little different. He has done a lot of different films, especially as a screenwriter (from Scooby Doo to zombies to intergalactic superheroes), it is one of his first directing efforts for a major motion picture that we’re featuring today. It is actually his first directorial effort that wasn’t for Troma Films.
Slither was James Gunn first major directing effort and was his first pairing with Michael Rooker (who would later play Yondo in the Guardian films). This film has an all-star cast, including Rooker, Nathan Fillion, Elizabeth Banks, and Jenna Fischer. It is a fun-loving movie that pays homage to the great films that came before it. If you love movies about mutating monsters, brain slugs, and extra-terrestials learning about love, this is the film for you. Or if you are a Nathan Fillion fan, I’d definitely check out this movie for his role alone. To pick up this movie, just click on the image below and the synopsis is listed underneath.
Synopsis: From the co-writer and director of Guardians Of The Galaxy and Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2, comes the deliciously demented story of an unnamed evil wreaking havoc on a small town. Intent on devouring all life on Earth, this dark and slimy entity is infecting anyone in its path. Now it’s up to the local sheriff, Bill Pardy (Nathan Fillion, Firefly, Serenity), and his team to stop the spread of rampant devastation (and shocking mutilation) before it’s too late. This outrageously funny horror film also stars Michael Rooker (Guardians Of The Galaxy, The Walking Dead), Elizabeth Banks (The Hunger Games, Pitch Perfect) and Gregg Henry (Body Double, Jason Bourne).
